Inside the Indus International School VR lab, Bangalore

Indus International School, Bangalore opened on 14 July 2003 with 135 students. Today it occupies a 40-acre campus at Sarjapura and teaches more than 1,100 students from Reception through Grade 12, running as a day and boarding school with an average class size of 25. It is an IB World School offering all four International Baccalaureate programmes — Primary Years, Middle Years, Diploma and Career-related — to a student body drawn from 33 nationalities.

The school has been ranked India's number one international school for fourteen consecutive years, from 2012 to 2025, and holds the White Swan Education Award alongside ISO certification. Innovation is not a recent addition here: Indus developed and patented its own Collaborative Learning Model, which brings human intelligence, collective intelligence and AI companions together in the classroom through the Indus Humanoid Lab. In 2023–24 the school distributed over USD 7.8 million in scholarships.

 

A school that already teaches alongside AI was never going to treat a VR lab as its introduction to technology. Indus added 9DXR Labs' hand-tracking VR science and mathematics lab for something its existing tools were not built to do — put the apparatus in a student's own hands and let her run the experiment herself, as many times as she needs.

What the Indus International School

VR lab changed ?

The Indus International School VR lab sits inside a campus that already runs its own AI programme. Founded in 2003, the school teaches more than 1,100 students from Reception to Grade 12 across 40 acres at Sarjapura, with an average class size of 25 and students from 33 countries.

Most schools meet artificial intelligence for the first time when a vendor walks in. Indus built its own. The Indus Humanoid Lab runs on a Collaborative Learning Model the school developed and patented, pairing human intelligence and collective intelligence with AI companions in the classroom — a framework Deputy CEO Dr. Sarojini Rao is credited with shaping.

So 9DXR did not introduce this school to the technology. It was brought in for a narrower job: the part of science that no companion, humanoid or otherwise, can do on a student's behalf — picking up the apparatus and performing the experiment.

A school that already had AI

Thirty-three nationalities, one bench

Indus teaches students from thirty-three countries. They arrive having been taught science in systems that disagree about almost everything — how much lab time a child gets, whether she handles the apparatus or watches someone else handle it, whether the practical is assessed at all. By Grade 9 a single class holds students who have run twenty titrations and students who have run none.

A shared bench cannot close that gap, because the scarce thing is the apparatus itself. A VR lab can. The student who has never held a burette runs it ten times before the lesson that needs her to know it, and nobody is waiting for her to finish.

What changes when there is no board practical?

In a CBSE school the argument half-writes itself: the board assessment assumes the student performed the experiment, so a lab that lets all forty perform it solves a problem the school already has.

Indus has no board practical. The IB asks for something harder — that a student inquire, design and evaluate, rather than reproduce a prescribed procedure. That makes repetition more valuable, not less. An investigation a student can only run once isn't an investigation; it's a demonstration she happened to be present for.
